Backend Engineer (Golang) – Health & Wellbeing Startup – Remote – up to £120k + package

develop Software Engineering team have been engaged exclusively to build a brand-new product team for an innovative health and wellbeing tech startup creating a next-generation wellness platform. The product is being built from the ground up with a privacy-first architecture, designed to protect user data while delivering intelligent, personalised experiences.

This is an opportunity to join early, shape the core backend infrastructure, and play a critical role in building a product that genuinely aims to make a difference.

The Opportunity

• Build and own Go-based backend services for a consumer-facing platform
• Work on a product where privacy and security are foundational, not afterthoughts
• Design infrastructure supporting end-to-end encrypted data sync
• Collaborate closely with mobile (iOS & Android) teams on shared data models
• Influence backend architecture, API design, and scalability from day one

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and developing backend services in Golang for secure data handling
• Writing and maintaining unit, integration, and load tests
• Contributing to shared API specifications (OpenAPI / YAML)
• Building privacy-first infrastructure, including encrypted data synchronisation
• Developing notification and engagement systems
• Working alongside Kotlin Multiplatform engineers on shared schemas
• Ensuring GDPR compliance and best practices in data protection
• Optimising systems for scale, performance, and security

What We’re Looking For

• Strong commercial experience building production services in Go
• Solid understanding of API design and OpenAPI specifications
• Experience with secure data handling and privacy engineering
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar)
• Good understanding of database design (PostgreSQL preferred)
• Comfortable working across the stack with mobile teams when required
• Strong preference for candidates with industry experience
